An On The Ground Perspective From Pakistan Part Two

Thank You so much for writing back, and your comments were very enlightening. I couldn't agree more that it is your country, and you must handle the situation within it. It is reassuring to know that the Tribal Leaders are not actively supporting but rather caught in a bad situation. I also agree completely with you that it is not just the job of Pakistan to secure the border but Afghanistan and ISAF also. That's one of the reasons I am a firm believer that we need greater troop levels within Afghanistan.

I am left with two questions for you though if you don't mind, as I try to understand it completely. Since you are there I put a great deal of stock in what you say; the closest I have been is looking across the border from Afghanistan.

First, how much of an offensive in the SWAT is going on? I ask because I have seen a number of reports that range in their assessment from massive to minimal in size. What is your assessment?

The second question is in regards to the ISS. Like you, I have seen the news reports of the accusations against them in the last 3 days. Do you think that it is possible, but done by renegade elements from within the ISS that are not doing what the leaders are telling them to do? Or is this also not possible?
