Suicide Attack in Afghanistan

Suspected Taliban suicide bombers have attacked the police headquarters and courthouse in the Afghan eastern city of Khost.

Seven suicide bombers dressed in women's burqas and armed with rocket-propelled grenades and AK-47s carried out the attack on Saturday, the Afghan interior ministry said.

Three of the attackers were shot in front of the gates of the police headquarters, while two other were killed nearby, a ministry spokesman said.

Another attacker was killed when he blew up his vehicle near a bank after he was shot at by police in front of the building.

The last bomber attacked another police building, but it was not immediately clear if he died when he detonated his explosives or whether he had been killed by police.

A candidate in Afghanistan's upcoming presidential election was in one of the buildings at the time of the attack, but escaped unharmed.

An attempt to attack several government buildings in the city of Khost, eastern Afghanistan, was unsuccessful today. The insurgents perpetrating the attack were killed by Afghan national security forces.

The ANSF thwarted the attack as several insurgents tried to destroy the front gate of the police headquarters. ANSF personnel responded before the insurgents could gain entry into the police compound.

In another part of the city, six suicide bombers were killed while trying to storm a government building.

"A group of militants inside of a car filled with explosives tried to bypass a secured checkpoint at an Afghan military hospital," said Lt. Col. Stephan Smith, commander of 2nd Battalion, 377th Field Artillery Regiment. "The vehicle exploded, injuring two Afghan national policemen and two civilians ... the ANSF saved lives today."

As far as I'm concerned, time for the Afghan women to either lose the burqa entirely, replaced by hijab or they are prisoners in their own homes. Otherwise, they get tasered, duct taped and thrown on a donkey back to the casa. Or blown up.

Better them than Our Troops.

Sorry but I have no patience for this crap.

On a happier note, a bunch of the fools got taken out. On to their time in hell none too soon.

I'm kind of for suicide bombers taking themselves out as long as they aren't able to take anyone with them.

As far as a force equalizer - - hiding behind burqas works -- and in war, I suppose that is fair. How dangerous is it to have "Lionesses" to be able to search women, on a regular basis. If the insurgents know they will not be able to get away with hiding, they won't hide. Or is that logic messed up?

Alexa, RangersGirl,

My least-hated suicide bombers were those that blew themselves and their friends up in the staging area...usually a house somewhere.

No, having female Soldiers to search is exactly something that we do. The reason they do that (burqa) is not so much the searching part, but the ability to move stealthily through a crowd with a great deal of concealment and blending in.
