A lot of people have written asking me what should they send in care packages to the Troops. And by no means is this a solicitation or the absolute answer. I've always felt kinda silly to be honest saying the typical things that Ive seen a million times before or stating the things that can't be sent. But, today I saw something that I had not seen talked about and I thought would be something useful to pass along.
Cards...yup....regular generic greeting cards. I dont mean the expensive kind...but just very simple greeting cards. The ones that I saw today were a box of cards people had made. Trust me..they were gone in about 5 minutes flat. The reason I say this is that most PX's (if your lucky eneough to be on a FOB with a PX) usually dont carry cards. At least in my personal experience. So finding something as simple as a birthday card or Easter card is pretty difficult. This very simple sounding thing, would be hugely appreciated. I know I did today.
So to the Ladies who sent them, I dont know if you'll ever even read this, but thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. Your gift was greatly appreciated.
God Bless America

It would be great to have some military on our show to talk about the great things they are doing as they serve.
The charities I donate to routinely send blank greeting cards to me for free. It's always handy to have birthday, Xmas, or blank cards on hand. Last year I sent them to The Hubs downrange, and yup... same thing. People loved being able to send a birthday, mother's day or father's day card back home.
Aww Major...I bet that might have been Operation Write Home! Let us know who to send more to... http://operationwritehome.org/heroes
Thanks for your service!!!
I make cards for OWH (Operation Write Home). I wish someone could have done it for my daddy during WWII. He was in a unit named 'the Advengers of Baatan' taking back our POW on the 'death march'. He instilled in me a love of country and a respect for those who serve it. Thanks for what you do.

I donate hand made cards to Operation Write Home and this organization has exploded in the 3 years it has been going. So many of us crafters were just waiting for a great outlet like this and we are SO HAPPY to do it. Thank you for your kind words from one crafter and Thank You for your service, Major. -TK, Vancouver, WA.
I belong to a organization called Operation Write Home, and we are a group of women and men who make cards for the troops. I think if you look on the back of the cards there might be a stamp or something to let you know who made them. We do this to show our thanks for all your service and to know that we are here to help you stay in touch with your families. God bless each and every one of you. Come home safe. I've created cards for Operation Write Home. I'm thinking that might be the group you're mentioning. I enjoy making cards and feel great knowing that they're so appreciated! I have another box nearly full and will be sending them off soon to one of the OWH shippers. You or any heroes can go to www.operationwritehome.org and request cards be sent to your unit. There is a Heroes button at the top of the page.
First of all I want to thank and all of the guys and gals there fighting for us...
I was just curious is the package of cards from Operation Write Home?
I am a cardmaker with this wonderful organization and it is awesome to hear you guys love the cards we make for you...
God Bless you and come home safe...

Thank you, Major. I have always tried to send seasonal cards to all the units I support/have supported. But have never received any feedback as to whether they were useful, wanted, etc. I had recently decided to discontinue but will go and start sending them again. Thank you for your service! Take care. Be safe!
I make card for Operation Write Home, along with many others. This is just something small we can do to thank you all for serving our country - so THANK YOU!
"From Our Hearts" also sends handmade cards specifically to Iraq and Afghanistan. It is our pleasure to provide this service. Glad to hear the troops enjoy our heartfelt support.q
It may be From Our Hearts that shipped those cards, too. We are a not for profit who also send those quality hand crafted cards to our servicemen and women in Afghanistan and Iraq - and feedback is positive, just as you state. It's amazing how one card can make a difference. God Bless you all.
